Her voice is sassy.
My tears are salty.
We are only five, and already I have been introduced to the world of shame.
People quote that old rhyme back at you;
Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.
Whoever wrote that rhyme didn’t know what they were talking about.
Words hurt, sometimes more than sticks and stones.
Words spoken unkindly are what introduce to this crazy world where everyone is out to get each other. I thought it would get better as I got older, but it didn’t. In fact I feel like it’s just worse.
Words are why we watch what we speak, squash passions and do everything we can to be cool. Words are why we change our outfit a million times before going somewhere. Words are why we follow the crowd even when it wrong.
Words hurt. There’s no getting around it.
But you know the craziest thing? Mean girls don’t remember what they said to you. That thing that was said to you when you were just five? That thing that still makes you conscious about yourself? The thing that took away your confidence, your innocence and affected you so much?
They don’t remember.
Im still figuring out how to become me. How to not let words affect me so much. How to live in the knowledge that it doesn’t matter what they say, it matters what God says.
Years of shame is not quickly reversible.
Reading Ephesians 1 and 2 has helped me. I actually wrote a post about it here;

I write down who God says I am and read it to myself whenever the words start to affect me.
Its not easy. Their words go straight to my soul every time. They affect my confidence.
But I just need to remember who God says I am.
Also, find a person who dousnt do that to you. Find someone who builds you up.
Just know, your not alone. Its not just you. Words hurt, its a fact.
