You know that feeling, when you start something new?

A new project, workout plan or habit tracker. You start of with so much motivation, excitement and the resolution that your going to stick with it this time!

The first few days, or few times you do it, it feels amazing, and productive and your so excited!

And then, after a few times or days, it starts to feel mundane. Like hard work, and pointless.

And then slowly you start making excuses… I’m too tired, I’ll start again tomorrow, what even the point?

You end up quitting and feeling terrible about doing so.

Sound familiar? Your not alone, this has happened to me more times then I can count.

So what’s the secret? How do we stick with something when the motivation, the excitement runs out?

Im going to be honest, it has taken me a lot of failed practise, a lot of workout plans, a lot of quitting and feeling terrible about myself to learn how.

And the truth is something I grew up learning, had taught to me since I was young. I should have had it mastered!

But I didn’t. I had to experience it for myself, fail hundreds of times till I finally learned the truth I was ignoring.

Motivation isnt the problem. It isnt going to get you to your goal.

Something else is.

Disipline.

I grew up hearing this word over and over, usally through the Way Of The Warrior Kid stories and the Bible.

But I saw discipline as something adults needed, something that I didnt need. I understood the concept but I ignored its usefulness.

Heres what google AI describes discipline as:

Im not talking about discipline as in when you do something wrong and your parents punish you.

Im talking about self discipline, the second meaning lovely Google informed us with.

I have learnt over and over and over and OVER (I could go on forever guys) that motivation isnt going to carry me through to the end. Motivation is only a way to get you started or a pleasant bonus.

You cant rely on motivation, but you can rely on discipline.

Discipline means doing things when they are hard, when you dont feel like it. Discipline isnt fun or easy.

In fact its hard, really hard sometimes.

But the reward you get at the end of it? Its so so worth it!

So here’s a challenge for you today: What something you want to get better at? Is it a workout plan, eating healthy, writing, a hobby, work or waking up early?

Im going to challenge you to set a goal today. Not too hard, not too high. Something like write 250 words daily or wake up at 6:30 every morning

And remember, those morning when you dont want to do it, you want to quit?

Disipline. Keep going. Its not fun, its hard, but the reward is worth it.

Lets be disciplined together!

Selah xx

p.s- I have been trying to write this for way too long! Its unedited so im going to come back and edit it later 🙂
