If you are like me, you probably live in a safe country where as a Christian you are free to practise your faith publicly. We can pray in public, read our bibles in front of others and even witness to anyone we want. And the only persecution we receive is maybe a strange look or mild rejection.
In other countries people are getting injured, hurt and dying for their faith.
As Mack Stiles says, “Most Christians in the world must fear the raised fist; Americans [and other Christians that aren’t severely persecuted] fear the raised eyebrow.”
We are so blessed to live in a country where we can practise our faith safely, and yet we tend to hide it or not speak up about it, fearing laughter or judgment.
Why do we do this?
Why are we afraid to speak up about our faith?
I don’t know about you, but for me, I like being comfortable. I dont like getting out of my comfort zone. And I hate being judged.
And yet being a follower of Christ; I find myself challenged to do that everyday.
This quote from C.S. Lewis just about sums it up;
“If you want a religion to make you feel really comfortable, I certainly don’t recommend Christianity.”
Huh. So true.
And yet Jesus calls us to be bold, not to hide.
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power.”
— 2 Timothy 1:7
Now first of all. pls not get me wrong. Persecution is horrible and scary. Its a terrible thing that hurts my heart. And we are so lucky to live in countries where we are safe.
But comfort can be a danger as well.
Whilst others suffer dying for standing up for their faith, we hide it out of embarrassment.
Whilst others are suffering just to call Jesus Lord, we are feeling uncomfortable by raised eyebrows.
Gods calling you to step out of your comfort zone.
