I know what its like as a teen, life is so busy. Where are we meant to find the time to bible study for an hour every day in between school, homework, sport, hanging with friends, chores and hobbies? There’s like literally no time in the day! But spending time in the word is just as important as all those things (way way more important actually!) But its not like we can just skip them with bible study as our excuse ( I don’t think our parents would like that…). So I found a solution, one that allows us to still spend time with God, but not have to wake up at 4:30 to do it. So stick with me a little longer(5 more minutes!) to find out how!

3 habits that make it so much more easier

  1. Lay out your bible study tools the night before( bible, devotional, notebook, etc)
  2. Pack your bag the night before; this gives you an extra 10 minutes in the morning
  3. Wake up just 15 minutes earlier- 15 minutes is not that much, but the amount of bible study you can fit in in that time is mind blowing!

P.s- If you prefer to bible study at night then that perfect! Find what works for you.

The five 15 minute techniques

Pls note that I would recommend mixing these techniques regularly.

1. Follow a 15 minute bible reading plan; this is the easiest way to do it. Everyday all you have to do is read the daily scripture and the short commentary on it. I would also recommend afterwards writing at least one verse/idea that stuck out to you or any questions you had to, look up later.

2.Verse/passage scrapbooking: If you’ve seen my post HOW I BIBLE STUDY EVEN THOUGH I CANT DRAW you’ll know this is my technique I use the most. The example I showed in that post though took longer than 15 minutes, but the idea is the same.

Choose a passage or even a dense verse and write/draw/scrapbook on it for 15 minutes. You can use a bible dictionary/commentary like I did (I used Bible Gateway for mine because its free and online). The goal here is not a perfect scrapbook- its learning more about the passage in a fun colourful way (the highlighters are for ease of reading and fun- not practical reasons)

3. Journaling; read a passage for 5 minutes. Read some commentary if it helps. Choose a verse or just use the whole thing and journal. Dont worry about neat writing or perfect facts. No one else is going to be reading it. Just write your thoughts, your observations, your questions, even a prayer in there. Its a beautiful creative way to get it all on paper like that.

4. Watch a 15 minute guided bible study: this way your learning; but not having to think hard about it- just following the video. Good for days when your tired and dont feel like journalling or being creative. But again I recommend mixing it up with other study more often.

5. Three things study: read 5 minutes of a passage, read a 5 minute commentary or devotional and write for 5 minutes. My favourite 5 minute devotional is Hey girl; you are seen, loved and made for more by Anne Wilson. You can look up writing prompts for your chosen passage if it helps-or just write whatever you feeling, about the passage, devotional or even a written prayer- it dousn’t have to be related!

I really hope this helps you to pursue the most important relationship in your life every day. One more thing,  don’t worry if you miss a day, it happens to me all the time, and everyone in the world I’m pretty sure. Just do your best to get on track the next day!
